Day 20 - Bye bye Provence, hello Paris

Au revoir Provence

Final pics of our lovely cottage

Lyon-Paris TGV

We had to return our car at Lyon, but still managed to have a 1-hour drive around of the beautiful city. We thought about having a lunch in this “Gastronomic capital”, but we preferred to spend the extra hours in Provence. We’ll miss Provence.

Thanks to Mrs Chan’s thought of wisdom, we got to the car return district early. And lucky we did! Took us about 30min to find the location of the car drop off.

Still had time to spare for a light sandwich before hopping on the TGV (bullet train) to Paris. The trip took about 2 hours from Lyon to Paris. It was Mrs Chan’s first time on a high speed train.

Yellow flower patches taken from the TGV. Yeah... I know it’s a crappy photo.

Paris hotel – Melia Vendome Boutique Hotel

Extremely central location next to the Concorde metro station. It’s a 4-star hotel, but we booked at a 2-star price (80E/night) during a special promo a few months ago. We overheard quoted rates of 200-400E/night while we were checking in.

Paris – 1st dinner at Au Bon Accueil

After check-in, we made a call to Au Bon Accueil and they got us a table at 10pm. There was still some twilight at 10pm – wonders of travelling in warmer months.

This is a cosy, warm and chic restaurant, filled with both English speaking and local eaters. Food was extremely good for the price (31E/pp, 3-course menu).

Entree – cold watercress veloute (soup). Very refreshing

Main – Silver cod fish with lemon dill butter, served with veges. Unfortunately I can’t name the veges, but I can say the balance of flavours was fantastic. Very aromatic dish.

Dessert – Chocolate Moelleux (molten choc cake). Perfect (yes – Perfect) delicate texture on the outside (cooked, smooth) and inside (molten).

Would I recommend this restaurant? YES! Very high quality food at a very reasonable price.
